The history of recording media is relatively short. Audio Recording Hardware has undergone amazing transformation along with the media upgrades and others, in my opinion downgrades. The dental drill tones of modern digital does not appeal to me.
Tube pre-amps for instance are prescribed to “add warmth” to your tracks and fatten them up with “warm tube sounds.” That is because the honeybee buzz Kazoo sort of sound is the keynote signature of the digital age. If there were not something wrong with the sound … .”
That and of course Sean and Shawn (The KidNapster Twins) stole everyone’s songs, previously having value, downloading them to share with everyone for free wasn’t that nice. And now they work in the corporate boardrooms of the other crooks who came along thereafter.
But the courts have come to the rescue we hear with announcement of a 44% increase now to be paid to artists in royalties. Spotify where the Robber Baron Sean now works (?) “spending someone’s hard-earned pay” (Two Of Us, Lennon and McCartney)
Let’s do the math. Spotify $0.00437 per stream x 0.44 = 0.0019228 (your raise) ==>> $ 0.00437 + 0.0019228 = 0.0062928 per stream so $ 6.29 per thousand streams. A million streamer is now worth $ 6, 290.00.
Mariah Carey got 11,000,000 streams of her Christmas Song “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” This set a record for streams. She made $ 69,190.00. Thanks your honor.
Mariah has a net worth of $ 500 Million because she was fortunate enough to have been in the music industry before Thing 1 and Thing 2 Kidnapst-her intellectual property along with every other published songwriter on the face of the earth.
The good news is Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon and everywhere in between are selling vinyl records again. And the wise will put them all back in their place and see that they all reap what they have sown. Quality music sold exclusively through indie websites with artists controlling their own destinies once again. Follow me!
Music Production Equipment
So let’s look at some more music production equipment. Tascam DP-32 is what I currently own because it fits the budget and I already know how to use it. I do recommend it.
Tascam was in on the personal home recording foundation back in the early eighties. The 144 cassette recorder was all the rage. Fostex also had one soon thereafter. Both Fostex and Tascam (a division of TEAC) also made reel to reel machines for making good demos.
Tascam last year at NAMM the big industry showcase introduction for new equipment and instruments trade show introduced the Tsacam Model 12, Tascam Model 16 and the flagship Tascam Model 24. Designed for live mixing, home studio recording on SD cards and controllers for DAW. Just don’t.
Tascam Model 24
The Model 12 and the Model 16 are identical in function with fewer tracks and of course priced accordingly. Watch the video there and Johnny will tell he uses Pro Tools. I’d rather bang my head on the desk or hit my thumb with the hammer.
ADAT recorders have been replaced as the cassette tape and the vinyl record, but behold the superior sound is bringing the LP back. My suggestion is to look at SD recorders. The Tascam Models do have SD Recording but there are limitations to it.
With the SD recorder you record without the computer. We are musicians not computer programmers and your time is better spent playing music and learning to promote your own records online. This without streaming for the benefit of the KidNapster Twins.
Hard disc recorders were replaced by these new SD Card multi track machines.
The Cymatic uTrack24 can record 24 channels with a sampling rate of 48 kHz and up to 24 bits. And it can record up to 8 channels with a sampling rate of 96 kHz at 24 bits. The possibility to loop record endlessly is unique: Unlike other recorders, there is no limit to the maximum recording time. Man that’s handy. “This is the song that never ends and it goes on and on my friend.”
Besides its use as a recorder, the uTrack24 can also play back up to 24 tracks. The Playlist mode is very useful in such cases, supporting uninterrupted playback. When used under OS X, Windows and iOS, the uTrack24 turns into a powerful and comprehensive audio interface with 24 inputs and outputs.
PreSonus also makes hybrid mixing boards designated the Studio Live AR series. These have good features especially for the money and would pair nicely with a SD recorder like Cymatic uTrack24.
“Record and playback in stereo with the integrated SD digital recorder. Stream program music wirelessly, using on board Bluetooth 5.0. With a wide variety of connections, two ways to record, and a simple, elegant mixing surface, the StudioLive AR12c USB-C will quickly become the heart of your live and studio sound systems.”
The SD recording with the Studio Live AR mixing boards is a stereo track. Unlike the Tascam Models which record SD multi track as standalone recording machines. The AR series PreSonus boards also function as DAW controllers, live mixing surface and you get Studio One Artist with them. If you want to bang your head on the desk and hit your thumb with the hammer.
I was taken in by it all to begin with until I realized my time is better spent making music and promoting my online business. Lexicon plugin like the legendary Lexicon used by the stars of old. But its not a Lexicon. It’s a plugin modeling program approximation. Leprechaun? Laughter.
PreSonus StudioLive Boards
“StudioLive AR12c USB-C 14-channel hybrid mixers make it simple to mix and record live shows, studio productions, band rehearsals, podcasts, and much more. This is a musician’s mixer: lightweight, versatile, feature-rich, and packed with analog connections and digital tools, yet easy to learn and use. Mix with PreSonus’ famous Class A pre-amps and three-band EQ. Create multi track recordings and fly in backing tracks with a 24-bit, 96 kHz, USB 2.0 digital audio interface (over USB-C connection).”
I believe you will enjoy your music and your recording if you leave the computer on the desk where it belongs. If you must, then carry the SD card and insert it or bring the laptop and hook the USB to transfer files that way. In this post we have looked at gear professionals might use.
As I commented to a gentleman last night, on this site, if a person wants to be a recording engineer or record producer Pro Tools or other software might be required. This, with a degree in Recording Arts or whatever they call it.
But for most of us playing our instrument, writing songs and recording them in the most efficient manner is the wiser course. Think about it. The recording equipment we have looked at here is much higher cost than what I began with. There are much less expensive options available. Such as the DP-008 here.
“With 2 XLR-1/4″ inputs, on board stereo microphones, 2 recording tracks and 8 playback tracks, the DP-008EX can help you jot down your song ideas anywhere.”
Your songs are the point. The songs of many were stolen. I will continue to indict the ones responsible. It’s who I am.
Thank you for visiting my site and for reading my post. Caveat: Watch out for Leprechauns. Please leave any questions or comments here below. I will answer them. Thank you again. Chris.
